The children of foundation stage 1 were excited for the science day as they came dressed up as their favourite body part. Both the distant and blending learning children sang and danced on songs on my body and senses. In class, children wore headbands with one body part stuck on it; this made them feel special and helped them recognise that part better. Children watched a story based on the importance of every body part. Later, they were engaged in hands on activities such as sorting and sticking healthy and junk food pictures on happy and sad tooth along with making a human body using pasta. They posted pictures of their work on the Padlet link: https://padlet.com/elhamm1_win/FS1_ScienceDay

The FS teachers had prepared an online webinar for the parents to help them understand how phonics are taught in the early years. Parents got a clear picture on how the phonic skills are developed using the seven aspects and the various activities associated with them. It explained how listening carefully and attentively is the key and how parents can assist their children at home. In class, during the 30 minutes lesson every day, children acquire the skills through games, stories, rhymes and multi-sensory activities. Ms. Lorraine, Ms. Desiree and Ms. Dipti gave an insight to parents about the technique of teaching different sounds, letter recognition, letter formation, rhyming words, tricky words and the art of effective storytelling. They also answered parent queries at the end of the workshop. It was indeed a purposeful and informative webinar for the parents.
Children participated with enthusiasm in the Peace Day activities. The teachers explained the meaning of peace to the children. A discussion on what peace means to them kept the children thinking and made the lesson productive. Symbols that represents Peace internationally such as peace sign and dove with olive branch were shared with children. Children were engaged in various activities like yoga and dancing to the songs of Peace. They also participated in creative activities like paper tearing and finger painting to decorate their Peace symbols. The importance of sharing and being kind to others hence leading to peace in the world was stressed upon.
The FS1 Orientation started with Ms. Meenakshi welcoming all parents with a positive start to the new academic year. Later Ms. Lorraine took over and explained in detail how the learning would take place under the British curriculum framework. However, this year with the Distant and Blended learning patterns in place, Ms. Desiree briefed the parents about the pick-up and drop policies, classroom settings, Class timetables, Transport safety measures, temperature checks and the minutest details they needed to know before their child starts school. Dr Ritika also spoke about the Child Safeguarding Rules and how school plays an important part in creating awareness and taking responsibility of every child. It concluded with Ms Meenakshi answering to the entire parent queries and resolving many doubts.
