"Dress-Up Day: The Little Red Hen" proved to be a valuable and enjoyable experience for FS1 children. They came dressed creatively as one of their favorite story characters from the story ‘The Little Red Hen’ along with their props. Our little story narrators enacted the story along with their friends and imaginatively used new vocabulary as well as added new characters to retell the story. It was a wholesome experience for all. Through imaginative play and storytelling, children not only deepened their understanding of the story but also developed important social and emotional skills in a fun and interactive manner. FS students experienced the evacuation process for Term 3 and once again were familiarised with the route to the assembly points in case of a fire. The students were advised not to panic in case of fire alarm and also, the importance of moving in a calm and orderly manner to their respective assembly areas was also discussed with the children. Earth Day is a special time when we celebrate our beautiful planet and learn how to take care of it. FS1 children were shown a video on the importance of taking care of our planet and to conserve the environment. To raise awareness children were engaged in craft activates like using plastic water bottles / containers to make watering can for plants where children would use it in the vegetable patch and making storage containers from used plastic soda bottles for the classroom. During the holy month of Ramadan, our school embraces the spirit of unity, compassion, and reflection. Teachers educated students about the significance of Ramadan, its traditions, and the importance of fasting and charitable acts in Islam. This helps promote understanding and respect among students from diverse cultural backgrounds. A range of cultural activities and events have been conducted across school to celebrate Ramadan. During the 1st 2 weeks of Ramadan FS1 children were engaged in a carousel of activities such as making lanterns, and decorating the classroom doors, decorating milk bottle watering cans, making thank you cards, watering plants with the watering can, making thank you card for people who help in school, Eid Mubarak cards, bird feeders and last but not the least the Ramadan Charity Drive. Students across primary proactively and wholeheartedly participated in a donation drive. Through this initiative, they sought to develop a sense of community and empathy towards others, while also understanding the significance of helping those in need. Students welcomed the members of support staff with warmth and gratitude for all the work done throughout the year and handed over a bag full of goodies to them. They left the class with happiness and delight. Every drop counts! On World Water Day, FS1 children took the opportunity to create awareness to manage and consume water in the right way among our little learners. Children discussed the importance of water, how do we get it and how can we save water. They also watched a story on water conservation and sang song on saving water. Students shared their thoughtful responses and later made a water droplet bracelet. FS1 children were given an introduction to the idea of sequencing in programming. Through coding children were able to add steps, jumps and reach the end point by adding counting the number of steps needed and by entering the commands in the form of arrows in the command box; train AI (artificial intelligence) to identify thrash/fish in the ocean; and thereby learn to develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills through entertaining gaming and interactive challenges. Children also played snakes and ladders in Maths and Movement area where they gave instructions in a sequence to their buddies on how to reach the end. World Poetry Day presents a fantastic chance to acquaint students with the allure and influence of poetry. Beyond being an enjoyable and captivating mode of self-expression, poetry carries substantial advantages for the mental health and wellness of children. As part of the activity planned, children recited their favorite rhymes in front of their classmates and teachers. FS1 students celebrated International Day of the Forest to commemorate and raise awareness of the value of forests. They made headbands using natural leave, flowers and paper leaf cut outs; as well as shared their thoughts on why it is important to save trees in the forests. These activities taught children that forests are an important part of our ecosystem and that it is our responsibility to preserve and protect them. World Down Syndrome Day is marked each year on March 21, beginning in 2007. The 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. To create awareness FS1 children were shown a video to make them understand that all children are the same and need to be treated equally irrespective of their physical and intellectual traits. They also wore pairs of mismatched socks and were excited to show it to their friends and teacher. Children were also engaged in an activity where they had to design a pair of odd socks using their creativity and imagination. |
